What is an oral thin film?
Oral Thin Film(OTF)is a new drug dosage form, which is made by the processing of drugs and suitable film forming materials. The principle of the oral thin film is to mix the drug with the polymer material to make a thin film with a thickness of about 12 to 100 microns. When used, the patient simply places the oral thin film on the tongue, and the film quickly dissolves in the oral mucosa, usually in about 1 minute, before the drug is released and absorbed.
What is an oral thin film?
The oral thin film has many advantages, such as fast absorption, high efficiency release, accurate dosage and convenient use.It is especially suitable for the elderly, children, mental patients and postoperative patients who have difficulty swallowing or taking medicine.Compared with traditional oral preparations, the oral dissolved membrane significantly improves patient medication compliance, can be taken without water, and is not easy to spit.In addition, the oral thin film is a single-dose packaging product, which has a novel appearance and is convenient to carry, and can effectively avoid the risk of contamination caused by multiple use.

It is worth mentioning that the oral thin film is also often designed for drugs with high first-pass metabolism, because the mucosa is highly blood-rich,the drug can be quickly absorbed and instant bioavailability, thus achieving better bioavailability.

In recent years, with the continuous progress of pharmaceutical technology, the application of oral thin film in the pharmaceutical field has gradually attracted wide attention, and some pharmaceutical companies have successfully launched related drugs.
